Face Procedures
Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a nose reshaping procedure, is designed to enhance the appearance and proportion of the nose while improving overall facial harmony. Rhinoplasty may also help correct breathing difficulties caused by structural concerns within the nose.
Whether you are looking to refine the shape of your nose, correct asymmetry, reduce a bump, or improve nasal function, Dr. Tran creates customized treatment plans tailored to your facial features and aesthetic goals.
You may be a candidate for rhinoplasty if:
- You are unhappy with the size or shape of your nose
- You have a nasal hump or uneven bridge
- Your nose appears crooked or asymmetrical
- You have a bulbous, drooping, or enlarged nasal tip
- You experience breathing difficulties due to structural issues
- You wish to improve facial balance and harmony
- You have experienced trauma or injury to the nose
Rhinoplasty consultation
At your consultation we will discuss:
- Your goals and expectations for surgery
- Medical history, medications, and allergies
- Previous nasal surgeries or injuries
- Breathing concerns or sinus issues
- Facial proportions and nasal structure
Dr. Tran and his team will review before and after photos of previous rhinoplasty patients to help you better understand the possible outcomes.
Preparing for your rhinoplasty procedure
Prior to surgery, our team at Dr. Alan T. Tran Plastic Surgery will provide detailed preoperative instructions, including:
- Obtain lab testing and/or medical clearance if needed
- Stop smoking at least four weeks before and after surgery
- Avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatory medications, and certain supplements
- Arrange transportation home after surgery
- Prepare a comfortable recovery space at home

Rhinoplasty techniques
Rhinoplasty techniques are customized based on your anatomy and desired outcome.
Open rhinoplasty
A small incision is placed across the columella (the tissue between the nostrils) to allow full access to the nasal structures. This technique provides greater precision for more complex reshaping.
Closed rhinoplasty
Incisions are hidden inside the nostrils, allowing reshaping without external scars. This method may be appropriate for select patients requiring less extensive correction.
Functional rhinoplasty
Functional rhinoplasty focuses on improving airflow and breathing while maintaining or enhancing the appearance of the nose.
Incision closure
Once the nasal reshaping is complete, the incisions are carefully closed with sutures. A splint may be placed on the nose to support healing and maintain the new contour.
What to expect after your rhinoplasty procedure
After your procedure, you will receive detailed postoperative instructions, including:
- Care instructions for the nose and incision sites
- Prescriptions for medications
- Follow-up appointments
- Activity restrictions during recovery

Rhinoplasty recovery
Swelling and bruising around the eyes and nose are common after rhinoplasty and gradually improve over the first few weeks. Most patients return to work or normal activities within one to two weeks, though strenuous activity should be avoided for several weeks.
Rhinoplasty results
Initial improvements will be visible once swelling decreases, but final rhinoplasty results continue to refine over several months as the tissues heal completely. Rhinoplasty results are typically long lasting and can significantly enhance facial balance and self-confidence.
The first step in rhinoplasty is scheduling a consultation with Dr. Tran. During your visit, you will have the opportunity to discuss your concerns, ask questions, and develop a personalized treatment plan.
